Monthly Event: South Main Art Trolley Tour

From the South Main Arts Council
webiste:

We invite you to join us for Art Trolley Tour and see what wonders the South Main District has to offer the last Friday of every month all year long is a special time in the South Main Arts District. The ring of the trolley sounds as the shops, restaurants and galleries in the area open their doors to the throngs of Memphians and visitors who make Art Trolley Tour on Main an event not to be missed. There’s no better time to browse the stores and galleries for that unique piece of art, clothing or jewelry while sipping a glass of wine and partaking of the wide array of tasty party foods. Slip onto the trolley for a free ride to the next stop and more shops. End the evening with dinner at one of the district’s fine restaurants. We invite you to join us for Art Trolley Tour and see what wonders the South Main District has to offer.

What are the hours of the Art Trolley Tour?
The South Main Art Trolley Tour is from 6 pm to 9 pm the last Friday of every month all year, come rain or shine.

What will we find in South Main?
South Main is home to over thirteen galleries and numerous shops including Gestures, a flower and gift shop; Muse, a men’s and women’s clothier; Then & Again, vintage accessories; Cheesecake Corner, the best cheesecake in Memphis if not the world; Mystery Train, unique gifts; and Parallax, video rentals and sales; All of the South Main Historic Arts District shops and galleries are open and they all serve refreshments during the Tour. Check the gallery listing on the South Main website for a list of galleries and be sure to visit the Galleries of Huling Row at South Main and Huling.

New shops, restaurants and galleries open frequently so a visit to Art Trolley Tour is the best way to keep up with what’s happening in South Main, Memphis’ one and only arts district.

Where can we dine?
The oldest coffee shop in Memphis, The Arcade, is located on the south corner of South Main and G.E. Patterson. Elvis used to hang out at the Arcade and it has become a favorite among film makers. Also serving fine food and atmosphere are Zanzibar at 412 South Main; Harry’s Detour, 106 G.E. Patterson; and Earnestine & Hazel’s, at the north corner of South Main and G.E. Patterson.

How do we get to South Main?
You can drive right to the district and park on any of the side streets or at the National Civil Rights Museum on Mulberry. Or, for the total experience, park in downtown Memphis in the MLGW lot and pick up the free trolley at the corner of South Main and Linden (just south of the Orpheum Theatre). The trolley will take you to the end of South Main and back stopping wherever you’d like to visit along the way.
